Sleepy, calm and off the beaten track, that's Aghios Fokas. It's the place to come when peace and relaxation are what's called for.
Description
Life's a beach in slumbering Aghios Fokas, one that stretches 7 kms between Psalidi to Thermes. It's among the best on the island of Kos, and that's saying quite a lot. Chilling out is the daily grind, so make sure you pack a few good novels; you'll find some welcoming tavernas and the odd bar at the shore to wander off to when you fancy wholesome Greek mezes, a coffee, or a bit of a change of scene. When the evening comes, a beautiful sunset settles on the horizon creating a little piece of paradise. The sea is warmed by the proximity of the volcanic island of Nisyros situated nearby in the Aegean, and hot springs bubble to the surface in natural pools, like salty Jacuzzis. It is very deep, too, which attracts water sports enthusiasts to this part of the coast. The sand, pestled from volcanic rock over centuries of erosion, is variegated from dark ash tones to light-reflecting white, with an overlay of pebbly patches, and lined up on it are sunbeds and parasols for the all-important task of taking it easy.
Aghios Fokas is an ideal choice for anyone seeking a holiday hideaway to recharge their batteries. It's perfect for indulging a passion for swimming and watersports with its wonderfully warm sea, yet is still within striking distance of the bustling island capital.
