Myrtos Beach is one of the most photographed spots in the Ionian islands. Ranked among the best beaches in the world, the shimmering waters hugging the dazzling white pebbles and sand.
To enjoy the best panoramic view of the breathtaking crescent of white pebbles, next to a turquoise sea, stop at the top of the cliff which overlooks it, breathe in the clean air and feast your eyes on the infinite shades of blue.
There is a steep winding road down to the beach, with a car park at the bottom, which can be busy, although the beach is long enough not to feel too crowded. There are basic toilets and a cafe for refreshments and there is a small cave on the south side of the bay which is popular for souvenir photographs. Visitors have also been known to spot goats on the cliffs.
The comparatively steep slope of the beach into the sea and crystal-clear water, makes it popular with keen swimmers, especially those who don’t mind lively waves – and there are no competing watersports – while families with children will want to keep them under sensible supervision.
The position of the cove on the north-west coast of Kefalonia makes it a real sun trap, but it can be windy.
Many visitors prefer to arrive at the beach early in the morning, or stay to enjoy the stunning sunset back at the top of the cliff.
