The popular, family-oriented resort of Protaras has some of the best sandy beaches in Cyprus. Take advantage of the crystal clear waters and enjoy the many watersports on offer.
Description
Protaras holidays offer spectacular scenery with sandy beaches much loved by sun worshippers. A relaxed haven of beauty, Protaras attracts families, couples, honeymooners and those wishing to get married. The rapidly expanding resort of Protaras nestles conveniently between Ayia Napa and Paralimni and is the place to go for experiencing some of the best beaches on the island of Cyprus.
Lap up the beautiful beach at Fig Tree Bay with fabulous golden sands, idyllic coves and even a little island you can swim out to. Then bask some more at numerous other wonderful beaches to be found in the area, all providing a great excuse for lazy days by the sea on holidays to Protaras.
Spend your evenings savouring a delicious meal in one of the countless tavernas or restaurants on the main street or visit one of the many bars, all within easy walking distance of each other. Protaras also boasts two discos for those seeking somewhere to go late in the evening and only ten kilometres away by taxi or bus is Ayia Napa, with an exciting nightlife and a much larger selection of bars, restaurants and clubs if you’re looking for something even livelier.
Facilities in resort are plentiful with a wide selection of shops, however a little further along the coast lies the typically Cypriot village of Paralimni on the southeast coast. A place where you can witness the first sunrise in all of Europe and enjoy panoramic sea views. This is also a great place to shop to your heart’s content, with malls and designer brands aplenty and a pretty village square surrounded by tavernas and churches for some chill out time.
For something a bit different, why not take a daytrip to Varosha? Transformed into a ghost town after the Turkish invasion in the seventies, Varosha was once a thriving and glamorous beach resort, favoured by the rich and famous, including Brigitte Bardot and Elizabeth. Or perhaps take advantage of the boat trips that run from here for a visit to Cape Greco, a protected nature park where you can get a thrill out of the great snorkelling opportunities available. There’s something for everyone in Protaras.
