Tenerife’s stars twinkle like no other and the world watches.
The largest solar observatory in the world is in Tenerife, but you can get an amazing view of the night sky without it. The island is regarded as one of the three best places in the world to observe the night sky.
Get away from the artificial illuminations of the resorts and the sky is so clear and dark that the hundreds of thousands of stars and planets twinkle in a way you are unlikely to have seen before.
The Teide National Park has a trail of some of the best lookout points with information panels explaining more about the area’s fascinating link with the stars.
Guided visits can be booked to the observatory on the mountain side more than 7,000 feet above sea level. It is used by scientists from across the world and visitors get to see the equipment - and have a close up look at what’s happening in the heavens.
